Резюме: A landscape-geochemical research of the Iskar river basin between the towns Novi Iskar and Mezdra has been carried out using the system (basin) approach by analyzing radial and lateral migration and differentiation of heavy metal elements Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, Ni, Co, Mn, Cd in autonomous and subordinate elementary geochemical landscapes. The spatial distribution of above elements concentrations in soils, bottom sediments and vegetation in the area of research has been represented in maps basing on the differences from the standard deviation. Mathematical and statistical methods have been implemented to determine soil geochemical background in the area of study. Contamination in individual soil profiles has been proved when analyzing the lithogeochemical specialization of researched territory in combination with soil background and index of geoaccumulation I-geo. Lithogeochemical background has a leading role when analyzing the soil pollution. Applied is a synchronous analysis of heavy metal content in bottom sediments and sediments from the stream floodplain that has proven the high risk of long-year, persisting pollution of the riverine landscapes. Analyzed has been the impact of local lithogeochemical background on aquatic geochemical landscapes. The biogeochemical specialization of dominant plant species has been specified in regard to their ability to absorb or disperse the investigated heavy metals at varying extent.
