Its a thesis about U.S. policy toward radical Islam in the 1980s and 1990s. The dissertation explores how the U.S. intelligence community and other U.S. agencies assessed the rise of Islamic radicalism and later how they tried to counter the threat. The first part of dissertation explores the situation in the region in the 1980s, the beginning of Afghan Jihad and the American intelligence then. Second part is dedicated to situation of the "Durand line" and birth of Al Qaeda Last part is for the history of 1990s - the war between USA and Al Qaeda /years of Bill Clinton/ Its a thesis about background of the 9/11 |
