Резюме: The dissertation examines nine years from the time of the military emperors. The period (244- 251) includes the reigns of the emperors Philip the Arab, Decius, Trebonianus Gallus, their co-emperors, the few months of the rule of Aemilius Aemilianus, as well as the raise of many usurpers. It can be defined as logically integrated, though short, stage unified by the common characteristics of the internal imperial development, as well as by the active external factors, amongst which are the incursions of the Goths.Fundamental issue of the period is the absence of enough narrative sources and their controversial character. This predetermines the use of heterogeneous sources of information as numismatic, epigraphic, judicial and archaeological materials, and papyri. Through them a more accurate, according to the data, reconstruction could be created. The work with different types of sources leads to a few important observations on the period as: the presumption that on the way back from the East after his inauguration in AD 244, Philip the Arab passes through Thrace using Via Diagonalis; the earlier dating (one that includes the beginning of AD 244) of the mandate of the provincial governor of Thrace, S. Furnius Publianus" the presence and the key role in the central power of the young sons and co-emperors - Philip son, Herennius Etruscus and Volusianus; new arguments in favor of the alternative theory for three (instead of two) waves of Gothic incursions in the period AD 248-251; the idea for the offensive against the Sassanids prepared by Volusianus and his father, Trebonianus Gallus also receives new supportive evidence.
The conclusion that comes naturally when researching the time of Philip the Arab and Philip son (244-249), Traianus Decius with Herennius and Hostilianus (249-251), Trebonianus Gallus with Hostilianus and Volusianus, and afterwards only with Volusianus (251 -253), is that it is impossible to define them as good or bad rulers. The analysis of their reigns in the context of the dynamics of that time testifies that they are capable to make fast and adequate decisions, even being aware that they would affect negatively their popularity.
