The dissertation represents a survey on a topic directly related to very important typological changes in the grammatical structures of Serbian and Bulgarian languages - that is, formalization of the predicate as a nominalized construction (NC) and periphrastic predicate (PP). The relevance of the survey should be observed in the context of the changes in social and cultural environment in Serbia and Bulgaria which reflect on the development of the literary languages in both countries at the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century. They lead to necessity of reorganization of the sentence structure and of greater diversity and specialization of the means of abstract and intellectual communication. On the other hand, the lack of adequate observations on this problem in the codification requires approach based on a corpus of texts from the period. Main goal of the research is to analyze the place NC and PP have in specialized communicational fields of both literary languages which explains the choice of scientific (popular scientific), official and publicistic texts. Strong functional, stylistic and discourse markedness of NC and PP results in using an interdisciplinary approach for the purposes of the adequate studying of these, which includes structural-semantic, functional, cognitive and word-formation analysis carried out on a contrastive basis - for Serbian and Bulgarian languages.
