The doctoral dissertation makes a survey of the different theories of the grammatical category of case as an object of research and deals with the problem of the number of cases in contemporary literary Turkish. On a macrostructural level a linguodidactic model of the Turkish case system has been devised to teach students of Turkic Studies. The model is based on an analysis of a corpus of representative grammars, textbooks and teaching aids published in Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Germany, Great Britain, the USA and Turkey. On a microstructural level two of the selected cases (Locative and Ablative) are treated from a phonomorphological aspect, a syntactic aspect and a semantic aspect, which reflect the three characteristics of the grammatical category under discussion: form - function - meaning. Specific definitions are provided for the phonomorphological characteristics, syntactic functions and semantic markers of the cases. On the basis of the semantic markers of Locative and Ablative a semantic map of these cases has been developed and a system of exercises has been created to help students master in successive stages the two cases which are the object of research (Locative and Ablative). The dissertation provides a theoretical basis for the teaching and mastering of the category of case.
