The dissertation examines unexplored and uninvestigated until now issues regarding the life and activity of Exarch Stefan in the context of the operational measures taken against him by National Security Services both before and after 9 September 1944. The research presents a complete archeographic description of the records of NS against Exarch Stefan with the findings compared to archive sources considering other persons and events. Within the framework of the paper, represented in the scientific areas of study during the last decades hypotheses, concerning different aspects of the life of the Bulgarian First Hierarch, are being approved and rejected. It answers some unexamined until now canonical issues, viz. the election of Stefan for Bulgarian Exarch, his eliminating from the exarch and Sofia metropolitan chair as well as his ''political inclinations''. |
