Рез. на англ. ез. The research is focused on the institutional control of popular music during the communist regime in Bulgaria. In the late 1940s culture becomes a state monopoly strictly providing the new ideological concepts in the different arts. Now music is involved in the processes of social engineering - the different historically shaped musical traditions in Bulgarian society are under the homogenizing pressure of the state institutions. Thus, the cultural foundations of the former social classes must be removed. But the institutional practice shows a lot of problems in accomplishing this concept, because of the vitality of the audience. In the late 1950s a new social situation appears, related with a process of an intense urbanization and an arising interest in consumption and leisure. The control of the regime now must enter these autonomous spaces offering aesthetically filtrated consumer and entertainment products. Special institutions and enterprises appeared in the course of the 1960s, trying to create and maintain standards for each aspect of the popular music. The control became more and more difficult for the state in the because of the great dynamics of the audiences. The institutions themselves develop different criteria in this control and this resulted in the trend for institutional centralization since the late 1960s and the first half of the 1970s. Nevertheless, these efforts for common criteria for the whole musical environment are confronted by the vital tastes of the numerous audiences. |
