The topic of this thesis is the internal migration processes in Bulgaria for the period of 1989-2010. Based on a tremendous amount of processed empirical data, the distribution of migration processes by administrative regions, statistical areas and on a national level is established both in absolute numbers and relative shares. The growth in absolute numbers and relative shares is established in the same statistical units. The John Webb method for differentiation of population growth by main components is applied for evaluation of the role of internal migrations for decrease of population during the observed period. The abundant statistical data is processed, classified and systemized in detailed tables down to an administrative region level. The study explores in details migration factors, theories and models in correlation with the internal migration patterns of Bulgarian population, constructing a classification of the internal migrations in Bulgaria by type and historical periods. The main dangers of the demographic situation are outlined. Major aspects include national security, intellectual and physical sustainability of the nation and uneven distribution of population, as well as serious inequality in the social and economic development of different regions. Based on processed statistical data and theoretical postulates certain common and specific features of internal migrations during the reviewed period are outlined.
