Резюме: The study is based on the understanding that a new Enlightenment visual culture is formed on the basis of the desire manifested by Jean Paul all the senses to become eyes. The dissertation collects, describes and interprets illustrations, published in books, specialized and popular periodicals, representing Bulgaria and Bulgarians in their peaceful life. All the materials available in the XIX century European visual matrices have been investigated in their regard to the texts relating to the visible images. Chronologically tracked and conceptualized are the transformations of the visual presence of Bulgaria and Bulgarians from the book of A. Kunike (Zwey hundert vier und sechzig Donau-Ansichten ... 1826) to the presentation of the country and its new ruler Alexander Battenberg . In the dissertation have been examined the uses of illustrations that are premised not only by the nature of the individual editions, but also by the degree of active communication between visual and verbal - thus on this basis can be distinguished two groups: 1/ pure visualization, one-dimensional, one-frame display and 2/ visual works with high narrative potential. The visual puzzle Bulgaria is contextually nested in the Balkan framework that gives a discipline how to watch and see the exceptional, unique in presenting the Bulgarians and the Bulgarian locations.
