The dissertation aims to present a panoramic view of the socio-political mosaic of the Kingdom of Sicily during the period of Norman and Staufen rule. The social landscape is formed by a diversity of linguistic and religious elements which are often hard to distinguish. The text tries to show either the mixture but also the inevitable differences between the social groups, starting to draw a discord from the period of the decline of the muslim rule in Sicily. In the study have been traced the following changes in the socio-political life (as well as the foreign-political conditions) due to the numeral changes of ruling elite and its characteristics. Of specific interest is to analyze the influence that these changes had on the population of Sicily and South Italy and to what modifications in the linguistic and religious tradition they had led. The author agrees with the widely argued opinion that the transition from arabo-greek to latin tradition was an inevitable destiny for the Kingdom of Sicily during the period XI-XIII c. |
