The topic of the dissertation examines the problems related to the processes of preservation, exposure and socialization of the immovable archaeological heritage on the territory of Western Bulgaria, and in particular 24 fortresses and fortifications, which are supposed to have been used during the Middle Ages. All sites are located in suburban areas or fall into urban areas, but are not affected by new construction. A feature of this dissertation is its interdisciplinary focus, which includes knowledge from various fields of science, such as: archeology, history, architecture, geography, law, and others. Concidered are the main concepts related to the topic. Attention is paid to the international and Bulgarian legislation and management in the field of immovable archaeological heritage. The historical development and the essence of the processes related to the exposure and socialization of the immovable archeological cultural values within Bulgaria and on the territory of Europe are traced. Attention is paid to the problem of preservation / exposire, which addresses the topic of authenticity, restoration, conservation, and reconstruction of the immovable archaeological heritage. The last chapter examines the sites included in the dissertation, as an analysis of their current state and outlines the prospects for their development and their transformation into important cultural and tourist destinations.
