Резюме: In Nessebar there were, according to some authors, even 100 churches, of which 44 have been preserved, 10 of them are in their complete form and the church Nova Mitropolia is with a fully preserved architecture and frescoes. Now it is known as the Church of St. Stephen, and yet it was formerly known as the Church of the Holy Vrgin of the Life-Giving Source until 1855 and is a kind of encyclopedia of Orthodox art, despite its small size. The focus of this dissertation was driven by the thesis that the leading factors in the choice of a particular iconography were the liturgical life of the temple and the liturgical use of the biblical texts that are reflected in the frescoes. In the process of research it was found that the large number of 258 scenes and about 1,000 images were distributed in accordance with Eastern Orthodox tradition with reserved places of the obligatory scenes. The character of the frescoes is determined by the metropolitan status of the temple and its specific architecture - a three-aisled basilica of the Xth-XIIth centuries, enlarged in the XVIth century. Leading to such a different arrangement is the course of the liturgy, St. Mass and Sts. Eucharist, as well as the fact that Nova Mitropolia is dedicated to the Holy Virgin, the patroness saint of Nessebar until today.
