The main thesis of the author in this dissertation is that the implementation of the cluster approach is particularly suitable form for enhancing the competitiveness of the tourism destination as a whole and of the individual firms as it leads to increased scale of production, contributes to the common use of resources and is a factor for the spread of innovation amongst small and medium businesses, which define the landscape of tourism in the majority of Bulgarian regions. The objective of this work is to investigate the mechanism of formation and functioning of regional tourism clusters as a competitive form of territorial organization of tourism. The study includes companies in tourism as well as participants from other related industries, which form the regional tourism cluster. The study analyses the theoretical and practical aspects of the formation of regional tourism clusters, and in particular the system of organizational and economic relations between public authorities and enterprises - suppliers of an integrated product within the regional tourism cluster.
