This dissertation is the first comprehensive attempt for collecting, analyzing and summarizing of the available sources (epigraphic and numismatic) with regard to the festivals in the Roman province of Thrace during the period 1st-3rd c. AD. The festivals are examined at three main levels: at "province" level, at municipal and private level. The data from the numismatic and epigraphic material are discussed in the analysis in direct connection with the information from the ancient sources. The obtained conclusions are placed in comparative context with a view to more comprehensive and correct dating of the festivals. The festivals in the province of Thrace are examined in the context of the data from the Eastern Roman provinces to which numerous analogies and references are made. The obtained conclusions are used for historical reconstruction of the emperors' visits in the province during the period under consideration. The political, social, religious and economic aspects of the life in the province of Thrace are also outlined through the prism of the festivals. The dissertation is an attempt to clarify the extent to which the festivals in this Roman province reflect the process of Romanization during 1st-3rd c. AD.
