The main objects of investigation in this dissertation are the category HLC of locally compact Hausdorff spaces and continuous maps between them, different subcategories of the category HLC, as well as categories arising naturaly in the study of locally compact Hausdorff extensions of Tychonoff spaces. We prove many new duality, equivalence and isomorphism theorems for the categories mentioned above. For proving these theorems we use methods and results from the fields of general topology, the theory of proximities, the theory of categories, the theory of Boolean algebras and the general region-based theory of the space based on the ideas of A. N. Whitehead, and develop new ones. |
