The present study is dedicated to the Quran in its original Arabic text according to the so-called Egyptian Edition of 1923. Its subject is the Quranic notion of religion analyzed in the light of the concept of dīn. Since the 17th century this concept has acquired the right to be an equivalent of the Europe-Christian notion of religion. If we place it in a common Semitic and Monotheistic context (of the New Testament) we shall see that it is closely related to the eschatological perspective. The dissertation aims at revealing the semasiological dimensions of the notion of religion in the Quran from the view point of the concept of dīn. According to this it tries to fulfil the following purposes: - To define the Quran in a way that do not contradict its nature, and that is related to the old Islamic traditions and practices of studying it, and that shows respect to its ethical role and social significance, and that facilitates the access to it in order to be studied, researched and understood. - To formulate and describe a natural semasiological approach to it which considers its specific features. - To follow throw the various research perspectives - the old and the modern of them - from which has been examined the concept of dīn in the Quran. - And finally to submit to semasiological analyses all the realizations of the concept of dīn, respectively of the root morpheme /d-y-n/ within the Quran which are traditionally associated with the notion of religion.
