The motivation of the dissertation is based on the creative interests of the author, as well as on the lack of research on the topic that is important for the current, visually-oriented, global social space requiring visual literacy education and communication culture in order to achieve complete and adequate public integration of the learners. The object of the study is the symbolic meaning in the decorative applied arts, and the object - the art education process for the 7th grade students in public schools. Hypothesis: The use of a new methodological module in art studies in 7th grade of the secondary school will increase the visual literacy and symbolic thinking of the students. The main goal is to reveal the essence and functions of symbolic meaning in the works of decorative applied arts, which have a direct relation in the process of art education for the 7th grade students in Secondary School. Chapter one of the dissertation synthesizes and analyzes information sources and examples related to the topic. Chapter Two examines the essence and role of the subject of Fine Arts in Secondary School and presents a concept for an experimental methodological module. Chapter three describes the methodological approbation and analyzes the results on the derived criteria and assessment indicators. The conclusions at the end of the dissertation confirm that the accredited methodological system has positively influenced the interest and the cognitive level of the students from the experimental group on sign-symbolic meaning in decorative applied arts. The anticipated results are achieved and the model could justifiably be used in the practice of fine art teachers.
