Thе dissertation put the focus on four out of all types of the nonverbal communication that take part in the rhetorical practices. They are: Kinesics, Vocal signs, Appearance and Proxemics. They are presented in the context of the public behavior of some outstanding sportspeople. A general representation of the classical theories of argumentation is also exposed, outlining the names of Aristotle, Cycerone, Quintilian. The contemporary theories of nonverbal communication are taken into consideration and the accent is put on the interdisciplinary nature of nonverbal communication. The analysis outlines the connection between the nonverbal communication, psychology, linguistics, anthropology, rhetorics. In the course of the analysis the author identifies the connection between the nonverbal communication and the sportspeople’s public behavior. The roots of this connection are found in the human civilization process and the transformation of the sport into a “cultural code of behavior”. The last part of the thesis represents the public profiles of two well-known sportsmen, the boxers Muhammad Ali and Kubrat Pulev. The author describes their nonverbal characteristics, analized in specific communicative situations. A comparative analysis has been conducted and the results have been summarized. Without claiming for comprehensiveness the author states that the thesis: The public behavior of the sportspeople represents some basic relations of the interpersonal communication. The interpersonal communication itself involves parts of both verbal and nonverbal types, though the public behavior of the sportspeople defines specifications of nonverbal behavior that are typically represented by sportspeople, has been confirmed.
