Novel colloidal formulations of cephalexin, ciprofloxacin, econazole, chlorambucil and etoposide were prepared by drug loading to poly(etyl cyanoacrylate), PECA, and/or poly(butyl cyanoacrylate), PBCA, nanoparticles. Results on the effects of various experimental parameters on nanoparticle characteristics were obtained. For the first time nanoprecipitation was applied for the preparation of different PBCA nanoparticles loaded with chlorambucil, econazole and epirubicin. Contributory is the use of polymerization in mixed solvent system and the pre-polymerization approach for the preparation of epirubicin-loaded PBCA nanoparticles that allowed better dispersion of monomer and promoted the formation of uniform drug-loaded particles. New data on the interactions between epirubicin-loaded PBCA nanoparticles and blood plasma proteins were obtained by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique. Nanoparticles of poly(styrene-co-maleic acid), PSMA, were prepared by nanoprecipitation and proposed as novel epirubicin nanocarriers. Results on the effects of various experimental parameters on nanoparticle characteristics were obtained, which would be useful to achieve control over the manufacturing process and consistency in production. Novel albumin-stabilized nanoparticles with high drug loading efficiency for epirubicin were prepared from PBCA and PSMA with core/shell structure.
