The increased interest in exploring mysticism could be attributed to the strong interest in psychopathology or the growing fascination of the East, and on the other might be interpreted as a reaction to the materialism and consumerism of Western civilization, at a glance directed at the Oriental world so deeply drawn by the values of spiritual and religious experience. Generally, every religious or philosophical practice is reduced to a psychological discipline and a method of mental hygiene. Modernity takes the mystical experience from the religious sphere and puts it into the sphere of psychopathology. From a socio-cultural point of view, European thinking connects presumably the value system on the basis of specific facts that are accepted as undeniable. The concept, which is key to the psychological understanding of values and which is most commonly used in describing them from psychological positions, is the concept of behavior. The behavior of the mystics, without a good understanding of the social, cultural and religious context, can easily be reduced and categorized in medical terms. Religious and scientifically entwined in a strange way in shaping modern Western ideas not only about life but also about the reality and place of human in it. The task I set out in this work is to explore and follow the idea of the mystical experience that is addressed in the many uses and variations of the term according to various authors studying the mystical experience by exploring the mystical experience of the interaction between self-reflexivity, the balance of the effect, experience and self-development in individuals without psychiatric diagnosis and individuals who are diagnosed with schizophrenia.
