The dissertation analyses the semantic field of possessive verbs in three Slavic langiages - Bulgarian, Czech and Rissian - in four periods: earliest, 14-th century, 17-th century and modern. The research is based on the tradition of the Russian semantic school applying component analysis of every single use of lexical units in comparative and contrastive aspect. Some new concepts and terms are introduced in the description to descerne most flexibly the semantic changes. The emphasis is thouroughly on speech in the terms of Ferdinand de Saussures opposition of langue - parolle, which inevitably takes pragmatic factors into acount. The discourse uses of the verbs considered lead to the conclusion that the primary meaning of their first lexic-semantic variant is present in all the texts analysed and this is an ample proof that the semantic field was formed in an early period - not later than the appearance of the oldest Slavic texts. There is a high degree of etymological identity in expressing possessivity in modern Bulgarian, Czech and Russian, which demonstrates that the nucleus and the contiguous area of the semantic field of possessivity were already formed in Common Slavic. This fact has conditioned the unity observed till now.
