The dissertation examines the impact of meaning on the effectiveness of activities with potential application and value for the business. Meaning is reviewed in cognitive, personal, cultural and existential context. Efficiency is measured by the efforts made, the results achieved and the involvement in work. The following styles of meaningmaking have been identified: "Sensitivity to meaning", "Avoidance of meaning" and "Tolerance to latent meaning". The reults from the qualitative study were processed by conceptual cluster analysis. It turned out that the meaningless work is perceived as more difficult, has a negative impact on the feeling of success and on motivation. According to the results of the quantitative empirical study of 248 subjects, the meaning of work has the greatest predictive power with respect to the dependent variables: effort, results achieved and involvement in work. "Sensitivity to meaning" has a positive impact on performance and is a strong predictor of efficiency, increased effort and involvement. "Avoidance of meaning" has a negative effect - the more pronounced the style, the less effort is put on and the results are weaker. The comparison of meaningful and meaningless tasks has shown that people are more inclined to be conscientious, respect deadlines, achieve high quality, be creative, make fewer mistakes in meaningful tasks. Meaningless tasks lead to procrastination and failure.
