In 2010-2017 Bulgarian literature has been described with constant growth and diverse content. This PhD thesis has in-depth study of the bookpublishing practices of five of the biggest publishing houses in Bulgaria, “Ciela”, “Janet 45”, “Hermes”, “Colibri” and “Riva”, in the publication of books of contemporary Bulgarian writters. The selection of these bookpublishing houses is based on their successful activities in the 90s of the 20th century and at the beginning of 21st century. The purpose is to examine the professional relationship between Bulgarian bookpublishers and writters and how Bulgarian literature is presented on the market. The reason to limit the study in 2010-2017 is because there was a “second wave” of interest in Bulgarian writters. The focus of the research is changes in the bookpublishing practices of the bookpublishing houses and their policies about marketing, advertising and media reflection. The examination of the bookpublishing practices shows that different communication channels have an impact on the development of the local bookpublishing. The Bulgarian book is becoming anticipated product, which stimulates bookpublishers to invest in its production and distribution. This PhD thesis is the first attempt for a comprehensive study of the bookpublishing practices in the publication of Bulgarian literature in 21st century. It serves as a starting point for new scientific developments and it enriches theoretical and practical knowledge.
