The topic covers the period from the autumn of 1944 to the second half of 1956. The lower boundary is determined by the coup of September 9th 1944, and the upper one reflects the processes of de-Stalinization, relative liberalization and abolition of censorship institutions. Based on an analysis of archival documents, statistical data and bibliographic information, the main processes in the field of book publishing are presented. The establishment of a political regime dominated by the communists and later, a Stalinist-type regime, determines the specifics in separate periods of time: a transitional period until 1947, a time of building state-regulated and guided book publishing (1948-1952), forming of a centralized censorship system (1952-1956). The exposition is based on a chronological-problematic approach. The main institutions that determine the policies in the field of book publishing are presented - the ideological ones (the highest leadership of the Communist Party), the relevant higher departments (ministries and committees), the bodies directly involved in the management of printing enterprises, book publishing and book distribution. It is consequently shown how the leadership and control of book publishing by the Communist Party is carried out. Highlights are put on forms of control and censorship, circulation policy, changes in the organization of printing and book publishing.
