Text based on "Early American Costume" by Henry Pitz and Edward Warwick.--p. 28-89 of Text. The present volume discusses clothing in the American Colonies and in the early Republic, up to 1790. Subsequent volumes in the "History of the American Dress" will deal with the periods from 1790 to 1866 (volume three); 1866 to 1917 (volume four); American Military and Civil Uniforms as they were worn for parade and in the field, to World War I (volume five). The dress of the American Inidan will be volume one.-- p. 30 of Text.
